Using the vast array of abilities and talents within our membership, we provide members numerous opportunities to be involved in the following community service projects (just to name a few):
School Supplies Drive — At our September meeting, our members bring school supplies that we donate to the various Portales Municipal Elementary Schools. This helps these schools tremendously in being able to provide students with the supplies they need to achieve success in school.
Peanut Valley Festival — This event is held for two days in October and our members are encouraged to come and help sell peanuts and other peanut products in our booth. The peanuts are generously donated by Hampton Farms, a local peanut processing company. This is our main fundraising event which not only helps pay for operations of the club but helps in raising funds to provide two $1,000 scholarships for high school students.
Goodie Bags Given to CAFB Airmen – Members solicited sponsorships and items from local businesses, as well as provided candy to put in “goodie” bags to honor the airmen at Cannon Air Force Base on Veteran’s Day. Various club members delivered the bags to the base.
Meals on Wheels — Every November and March, we deliver meals for those that are homebound in our community through Meals on Wheels. Members sign up for the day(s) they would like to deliver these meals during those two particular months.
Santa Cop – Each year the Portales Police Department asks for our help in providing Christmas cookies for their Santa Cop event in December. The children and their families really appreciate being able to choose from a variety of cookies while they visit with Santa.
Hartley House — Members throughout the year are given the opportunity to provide various toiletries that are donated to the Hartley House, a domestic violence shelter for women.
